SAFETY RULES Appointment of chief operator Appoint a chief machine operator who is responsible for the safety of other people working with the machine. Instruct him to carefully read the manual and educate him on safety. Keep the keys of the POWER ON/OFF, MODE and SHEAR OPERATION keyswitches in the custody of the chief machine operator. Prohibiting modification Never modify the machine. Modification of the control circuit, for example, may cause the malfunction of the machine and its accessory devices. viii Assuring safety during machine operation Allow the machine to be operated by only those people who have received safety education. Never operate the machine with loose clothing. It is very dangerous if such clothing is caught in the machine. Be sure to inspect the machine before the start of the day's work. Before operating the machine, check that protective devices such as the covers and finger protector are installed in place. Never operate the machine with the protective devices removed, opened or installed out of place. Doing so may cause a serious injury. ix Before starting the cutting operation, check that there are no workers and obstacles around the machine. Pay particular attention to the rear of the machine. Never leave tools and the like on the table and ram. When operating the machine with another or more workers, check each other's safety while signaling by voice to each other. x There is an enough opening to load a worksheet between the finger protector and the table. When performing the cutting operation, never put the fingers into this opening. Otherwise you may have the fingers cut by the blades or crushed by the hold-downs. When cutting a worksheet with very narrow margins to hold, use tools and load the worksheet not to put the fingers into the opening. When cutting a worksheet, you may have the hands caught between the worksheet and the table in a very dangerous manner. Hold each worksheet by paying due attention to this hazard. Before removing the blanks or scrap that has dropped into the machine, be sure to turn the SHEAR OPERATION keyswitch to OFF, remove the key from the keyswitch, and keep the key by yourself. Never reach through the frame gap to remove the blanks or scrap. Press one of the Emergency Stop buttons as soon as a trouble occurs during the operation of the machine. The Emergency Stop button is located at the front of the machine. Contact AMADA in case of a machine trouble. xi Assuring safety during maintenance Before maintaining, inspecting, or adjusting the machine, stop the air supply, turn the POWER ON/OFF keyswitch to "O" (OFF), remove the key from the keyswitch, and keep the key by yourself. Stop the air supply when the machine is equipped with the optional air drive device. Before removing the cover of the electrical enclosure, be sure to turn off the shop circuit breaker. Never touch any part in the electrical enclosure. Otherwise you may suffer an electric shock. Post a sign to notify other workers that maintenance, inspection, or adjustment is performed on the machine. Adjusting the machine and changing the blades are very dangerous. Ask the specially trained workers or the AMADA service engineers to carry out these procedures. Before going to the rear of the machine and working there, turn the POWER ON/OFF keyswitch or SHEAR OPERATION keyswitch to OFF to stop the operation of the machine. The chief operator must keep the key of the keyswitch and directly instruct the work. xii WARNING plates Strictly observe what is written on the WARNING plate. Keep the plate well noticeable and never remove it. Hazard seriousness level DANGER Indicates an imminently hazardous situation which, if not avoided, will result in death or serious injury. WARNING Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. CAUTION Indicates a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided, may result in minor or moderate injury. xiii PRECAUTIONS FOR USE (1) Maintaining installation accuracy and safety Constantly check that the machine is leveled and that the anchor bolts are securely tightened. (2) Using and adding recommended oils Use recommended lubricating oil and hydraulic oil. Constantly check the levels of lubricating oil and hold-down hydraulic oil. (3) Cutting within capacity The cutting capacity of the machine is based on the maximum thickness of SS400 (structural steel) with a tensile strength of 450 N/mm2 {45 kgf/mm2} that can be cut. When cutting dissimilar, odd-shaped, or heat-treated materials, contact Amada. (4) Checking blades for wear of cutting edges and replacing blades early If blades with worn cutting edges are continued to be used, they may encounter an overload when cutting a material whose thickness falls within the cutting capacity. They also produce cut edges with poor quality and cost more to regrind. It is economical to replace the blades slightly early. (5) Adjusting blade clearance Improper blade clearance causes cutting edge damage, premature cutting edge wear, poor cutting accuracy, frequent material burrs, and blade binding, among other things. When the blade clearance is improper, adjust it. (6) Clamping material with hold-downs. For safe work, clamp the material with hold-downs before cutting it. (7) Retightening bolts and other fasteners Periodically check bolts, nuts and other fasteners, and retighten them if required.
